Massage parlors are hugely popular around the world, but North America has some of the highest numbers of these locales than most other countries. If you`re looking for a good massage or rub-down, then you will need to know the best cities to hit.

Types of Massage

Not all massage is equal. In fact, you are likely to have a wide array of choices, no matter where you are. Knowing what you want ahead of time will let you choose the right massage parlor.

Swedish massage is the most common style used in North America and is usually just referred to as massage therapy. It involves using lotion and long, smooth motions to relax the muscles. It may be used in combination with essential oils to create an aromatherapy massage. With aromatherapy, the type of essential oil used will determine the effect . . . peppermint, for example, boosts energy, while lavender soothes and promotes sleep.

Deep tissue massage is used to help very stressed or knotted muscles, particularly those deeper in the body. Friction and slow, deep strokes are the hallmark of this type of massage and while painful, it is also very useful in curing problems.

If you want something a bit more interesting and Eastern, Shiatsu and Thai massage will give you a taste of the Orient. Both of these massage types involve acupressure points to help relax the body. Thai massage also requires active participation from the person receiving the massage.

Other types of massage that may be available include erotic massage, hot stone treatment, and reflexology. And, if you are in a hurry, a shorter back massage is usually offered.

Canadian Massage Parlor Capitals

Toronto is one of the hot spots for Canadian massage parlors. Here you`ll find just about any type of massage you can imagine, with plenty of international influences. When looking for a massage parlor here, you will also want to check out “holistic centers” as more spas are using this term now.

If you prefer to be on the West Coast, Vancouver is good place to start searching for that perfect massage. It`s also a great tourism area, so take the time to travel over to Victoria (also a good massage parlor city) and see the sights.

Edmonton is the perfect place to book yourself a rub-down at a local massage parlor, if you are looking for something a little more central in Canada. This is also the home of the famous West Edmonton Mall, which is a great tourist attraction.

US Massage Parlor Capitals

New York is at the top of our list for massage parlor overload in the United States. You will find a good sampling of massage styles, including their fair share of erotic massages. In the City That Never Sleeps, you can find massage parlors open all night long.

Another good spot to check out for more modern techniques like hot rock therapy and aromatherapy massages is Los Angeles. The salty sea air is refreshing and the massage tables relaxing. Just stay away from the sleazier areas of downtown.

Surprisingly, Kansas City is also high on the list of best cities to find a massage parlor. While laws have recently tightened in this area, the legit businesses are still thriving and waiting for your business.

Massage parlors exist around the world, but within North America, you can certainly find some of the best ones and the widest variety of massage styles. This abundance of relaxation means tourists and locals alike can enjoy a good massage anywhere they travel.

Often rated as probably the best place in N. America to take your children on a skiing holiday. Smugglers’ has an array of activities and entertainment options for the kids with some very friendly beginner slopes. The instructors at Smugglers’ have also been specially trained to deal with young learners, so this really is a fantastic place. However, what makes this such a popular choice is that in accommodating for little one, Mums and Dads have not been forgotten and there are also lots of things for Mum and Dad to do when little one is safely tucked-up in bed. All-in-all, a great resort town.

* Whistler, British Columbia, Canada
Already known as one of the best ski resorts in the world, Whistler also qualifies as one of the best places in N. America to take your children on a skiing holiday. Here, Whistler is one of the few high-end ski resorts in N. America that not only freely allows snowboarding, but actually encourages it! Specially trained ski instructors also means that you can leave your children with the instructor for a while whilst you go off and ski some of Whistler’s more advance slopes. And, if your child decides that skiing is not really for them, this wonderful resort town has plenty of alternative activities that will keep them entertained for hours at a time.

* The Canyons, Utah, USA
Centred around Park City, the Canyons in Utah are considered one of, if not the, most family-friendly ski resorts in N. America. Not far from the Canyons is Salt Lake City, home of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Certainly a top consideration for young families looking for a scenic, learner-friendly, ski resort.

European Skiing Resorts

* Les Arcs, France
Les Arcs holds itself out as being the first purpose built ski resort in the world catering to children! The resort is designed on a French-Canadian style village with a cable car linking it to the resort of La Plagne. The resort is huge, and has ample ski runs to satisfy both the more professional skier and the complete novice. The ski resort area at 1800 has a specially built children’s zone with magic carpet lifts and sledging tracks. Really, if Europe is the ski destination of choice this year for you and your family, give serious consideration to this resort – it’s superb!

* Ski Schools, Soldeu, Andorra, Spain
The ski resort in Andorra is set up specifically to help young children learn how to ski and is widely considered one of the best schools to learn to ski at. Many of the recent graduates of this school have gone on to compete on the European ski circuit. However, the school also offers classes to adults; and is so diverse and in tune with the public’s feelings towards skiing, now has a snowboarding school! Skiing lessons here are given to children wanting to learn from as early as 12 months old – showing that you have to prepare children early in the modern world of skiing championships. It should be noted, however, that this school is set up specifically for the serious learner, so if you want to partake in extra activities, you’ll need to make arrangements to go off camp. Aside from that, fun is the order of the day at the school!

As the biggest city in the Canadian province of Quebec, Montreal is consistently ranked as one of the world’s most livable cities. It’s also the world’s second largest city where French is the primary language, second only to Paris. French is the official language of Montreal, which was initially explored in the 16th century by French explorer Jacques Cartier. At the time of his exploration, the Montréal area was already the site of a thriving population of native people, primarily of the St. Lawrence Iroquois tribe, and excavations of the surrounding area indicate that Montreal was inhabited for at least 2,000 years prior to European arrival in the area. Interestingly, when French explorer Samuel Champlain visited the area some 70 years later, the entire population of Iroquois had disappeared, most probably as a result of tribal warfare, diseases, and migration to other areas. Originally named Ville-Marie, or “City of Mary,” Montreal derives its current name from the three-peaked hill at the center of the city, known as Mount Royal. In its early years, Ville-Marie was established as a Roman Catholic mission, dedicated to converting the natives to Catholicism. But it wasn’t long before the settlement, located as it was amid rich, dense forests teeming with wildlife, became a major outpost for fur trading, and provided a convenient spot for further French exploration of much of North America. In 1760, Great Britain defeated the French and assumed control of settlement, and in 1832, the area was officially incorporated as the City of Montreal. For the five-year period form 1844 until 1849, Montréal served as the capital of the Province of Canada. Montreal continued to grow, despite occasional setbacks during the World Wars and the advent of the Great Depression, and today the city ranks as one of Canada’s most frequently visited cities by tourists and other travelers, with a population of more than 1.6 million people. The city is rich in architectural heritage, and the buildings reflect a number of disparate styles reflective of the various points in the city’s growth. Montreal’s splendid Notre Dame Basilica, flanked by its two massive towers, offers a beautiful example of Gothic Revival architecture, with its interior richly decorated in shades of blue, purple, red, silver, and gold. The Bonsecours Market was once the central marketplace of Montréal, and today offers a wide selection of shops and eateries for locals and tourists. Even Montreal’s city hall is chateau-esque in its appearance. The city also boasts Canada’s tallest skyscrapers, including the cross-shaped Place Ville-Marie, previously known as the Royal Bank Tower. The tower, which rises more than 600 feet in the air, is also the central point of Montreal’s famous underground city, a complex of eateries, retail outlets, and other institutions located both above and below ground, and connected by a huge system of tunnels. Montreal is also famous for its underground public transportation system, Montreal Metro, which boasts a wealth of public art in all of its 68 stations. The stations themselves are designed separately, with an eye toward artistic appeal as well as convenience. In addition to a diverse and thriving artistic community, Montreal is also home to a huge and highly successful aeronautics industry, which has helped the city attract new technology-based businesses, ushering the city’s industrial base into the 21st century.
The Central American countries stand out from the rest of Americas. There rich history and breathtaking scenic beauty makes them the favorite place to visit all the year round. With a blend of south and North America the countries like Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama etc. give the continent the finishing touches and add to the diversity of the Americas. The area is always buzzing with activity since ages. The natural and tectonic activity used to shake the place in the ancient times. The rich history of the place reminds the people of the numerous settlements that took place in the region and today the political scene in these countries is ever dynamic. Thus the over all profile of the place is quite versatile and inviting.

On of the main features of the place are remains of the historically important Mayan civilization. It made a substantial part of the Central American history and still the reminiscent of the past stand as majestic as they might have been. The tourists are filled with a gush of adrenaline when they walk through the corridors of the ancient Mayans. The central markets of the city stand in all their grandeur majesty. The ruins show that the city was an urban hub and the people were pursuing agriculture as their main occupation. They were socially advanced people and their urban centers were the venues for dancing singing and many recreational activities. One can hear the echoes of the past standing in the middle of the large citadels.

The advancement in the Central American region is mainly due to the buzzing political scene and the awareness about the rights. The people are highly conscious about the protection of environment and great efforts are put in to preserve the rich environmental heritage. The Central American countries have entered in to a free trade pact as per which they are to let the others allow certain facilitations of trade in their trade. Popularly known as the CAFTA, it has proved to be a boon to the countries’ economies.

The Central American region is known for its volcanic abundance. Each country homes many volcanoes and many of them have erupted in the recent past. The tectonic rumblings are commonplace and it creates a lot of alarm in the people’s minds. The volcanoes are one feature that distinguishes the region form the rest of Americas and it adds to the mystic and magical image of the Central America.

But there’s one threat that has caused a lot of trouble in the region. The trade of drugs has entangled the region in to the grip of heavy crime. The world’s greatest drug trade can be found in this region. The roots of this criminal activity are deep seated and it has caused a lot of disturbance at the local level. But the comforting fact is that the regions attraction is overpowering on the drug threats. And the travelers are not threatened by these and keep on coming to the place with all zeal. And in the years to come this region will catch up with the rest of the world.
