National parks of South Africa provide splendid opportunity to view the wildlife at closer proximity. South African safari is the best way to see the African lion and other beasts of the jungle as they roam free in the wild. Contact a South Africa travel agent or tour company to book your African holiday this season.

Travel and Accommodation in South Africa

There are many options to stay during your South Africa holidays. You can choose from luxurious hotels to smaller hotels and hostels depending on your budget. You can also rent vacation apartments and villas.

If you are new to the place, consider hiring a South Africa travel agent. The experienced and well-informed agents can help you with flight booking, stay and provide you with full details of the South African Safari.

You can also ask you South Africa travel agent about local transportation and guided tours.

Planning a South African Safari Trip

While planning a South African Safari trip, discuss with your South Africa travel agent for further details. The agents can design a customized trip for bigger groups and families. Apart from that, there are various safari trips to choose- the guided South African safari, adventure safari, luxury African safari and self-drive Africa safari.

On guided tours, the visitors go on a South African safari with guides who explain about the wildlife and attractions. They will know where to find dense groups of animals and best photography locations.

In all safari tours, the travel agents and guides explain the tourists about the rules and safety measures in the national park.

To avoid any hazards, stay inside your vehicle unless you are near a rest area. Do not wear bright clothes or make noises to attract wild animals. Wear cotton clothes and shoes to beat the heat in South Africa. Thus, when you hire a reputed South Africa travel agent, you can enjoy your trip and the South African safari without any hassles.

A holiday to Africa takes several years of planning and saving for many of us. When you are finally ready to go therefore, you obviously want a truly memorable safari. It is thus important to get good Africa travel advice before your trip. Besides just seeing lions, elephants, the other big five and other African animals, you want your safari to be without any unnecessary hitches. If it is your first time in Africa, you should use a travel agent to help you plan your vacation. In this article, I identify some of the qualities you should look for when selecting a travel agent for your trip.

A good travel agent should have very good knowledge of your chosen destination, plus some “insider” information that not every ordinary person may have. They should know, for example, which lodges have been closed for renovation, any changes in government tariffs or restrictions to access game reserves and other tourist facilities, etc. etc.

You could test the agent’s knowledge by asking questions on any such information you may have heard yourself.

Like in many other professions, there are several quacks masquerading as travel agents. You would not want to be scammed or given a raw deal by such. Most reputable agents are affiliated to local or international professional associations like IATA, ASTA, KATO (Kenya Association of Tour Operators), etc. Such associations require certain professional ethics from their members. Find out if your agent is a member of any such associations. At the very least, the agent should be registered with the local government/regulating authorities.

          ]]>

There are some basic things that your travel agent should be able to guarantee you. If for example you want a private tour, not a group tour, you should get an assurance that your tour will be private. If you have bought a luxury package, they should guarantee you that you will use five-star facilities throughout your trip. However, do not expect your agent to guarantee you that you will see some of the rare or elusive animals like wild dogs, leopards, black rhino etc.

Travelling in Africa may be a bit expensive sometimes. The well-established travel agents often get special rates from lodges and hotels, and sometimes even from local airlines. Ask your agent if they have any such special offers that they can pass to you. It may help you spend less without compromising on the quality of your trip.

Read the fine print in the agent’s booking terms and conditions to see what they commit themselves to deliver, and also to understand their refund policy. For obvious reasons (administrative costs, booking fees prepaid to hotels and other service providers, etc.), you would not expect a full refund if you cancel your trip before actually travelling. But if the cancellation is within a reasonable time, you should get some refund. A good cancellation policy should be stated in a clear language that is easy to understand. Ask your agent for clarification if there are some unclear things in the policy/terms and conditions.

Sometimes things go wrong during your trip. Your international flight may be delayed, a travel companion may fall sick, etc. It’d help if your agent gives you several channels through which you can communicate even during the planning phase. If an agent is too slow in responding to your queries when planning, you may want to consider switching to a more responsive agent. You would not want a slow response in case of emergency during your trip.

You would definitely be more confident with a travel agent that has been recommended by close friends or family. Sometimes however, the only way to gauge an agent’s reputation is through online review sites like tripadvisor.com, and travel forums like lonely planet’s thorntree forum. Unfortunately in such online media, there is often some mud-slinging by competitors, as well as self-sponsored positive reviews. You should therefore use your intuitive judgement when basing your choice on online reviews.

If your travel agent has a website – most of the good ones do – start there. The website can easily tell you how professional the agent is. But the website is not everything. Other measures of professionalism may include the quality of emails and other communication between you and your agent, that personal touch, general courtesy, and depth of knowledge.

Before stepping on that plane for a marvelous safari adventure, plan like there’s no tomorrow. You will thank your self for being precautious when faced with untoward incidents.

Here are the important things you should consider when going on a safari travel:

1. Remember that it is one challenging endeavor.

Planning a safari can be one of the most exciting feats one can ever manage to make happen. It is not one of the generic travels, usual jetsetters indulge in. Though you are provided with a tour brochure and a tourist guide, it still is better to research on your own regarding the various itineraries.

2. Best spots for safari should be spotted.

The most suggested parts of Africa to enjoy safari include East and Central Africa, Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands.

3. Prepare for the climate.

It is a must to know the seasonal trends and how they will affect your travel. But also remember that the weather is fickle-minded so you can never really accurately predict the outcome of your travel if you will base it one the weather alone.

If you are going to visit East and Central Africa, long rains start early in April to early June. Short rains abound during late November to December.

Southern Africa has its rainy season from late November through mid-April for the safari areas. However, during that time, it will be summer in Southern Cape.

When one prefers Indian and Ocean Islands he or she can expect the seasonal trend to be more like of that of Southern Africa. In these islands, summer rains last from November through April. Cyclones can also be experienced during those seasons. From May to October, the dry season occurs.

4. Choose your activities.

Among others, safari traveling offers these fun-filled activities:

a. gorilla trekking

b. sailing

c. birdwatching

d. participatory camping

e. self driving

5. Know what you can afford.

When choosing a trip, budget constraints should never be overlooked. Decide on a price range that you can work on. To make your budgeting more effective consider the level of luxury of your safari travel, length of your trip, activities, accommodations preferences, meals and season.

6. Determine your travel style.

Do you prefer your safari to be more luxurious, moderate or rustic? Will you let kids tag along? Are you traveling with a group or will you be one bold, independent traveler? Will you travel by air or road? What about your guide and your vehicle?

Answering those questions will more or less improve your overview of your dream safari travel.

Have fun!

The Best Compact Digital Cameras for Kenya Tanzania Uganda Travel, Safari Photography

Though our safari guides are dedicated photographers, they often don’t take digital cameras with them when they are on a safari in Tanzania Kenya Uganda as they rather not to have the interruption and concentrate on making the experience as enjoyable as possible for tourists who have paid for the privilege. Our guides do have lots of other opportunities to travel on their own and photograph incredible wildlife & scenery. With this “best digital camera information our travel guides hope to pass on advice to help you get the best digital camera for travel, safaris and wildlife photography.

Best Digital Cameras for Travel in Kenya Tanzania Uganda – the most important features are:

The camera should be Handy – This for a safari travel camera is vital, it should be easy to place in your hand luggage; it has to be simple to hold, we highly recommend a compact digital camera for touring Africa. Remember that professional photographers carry large photographic equipment because it’s their job and you are on Kenya Tanzania Uganda holiday with the idea being to enjoy it.

Don’t become a Target – Another thing to keep in mind is that if you travel around populated cities like Nairobi, you are immediately a target for thieves.

Safari Camera – When you travel on safari in Africa, you most probably will be traveling on a 4×4 and the size of your camera is not that critical as long as it is easily available, but if you plan on a walking safari, again a small easy to carry camera is highly recommended.

Best Cameras for Wildlife Photography

When photographing wildlife the most important features to look out for are:

Get in close to the subject – Big Zoom required – the principals of Africa wildlife photography are similar to photographing polar bears in the arctic, you need to get as close as possible.

Digital Camera Battery types and Battery life

Battery life and what type of batteries the camera takes is also an important consideration to take into account, remember if you are traveling to remote locations there may not be any electricity to charge your batteries, therefore buying a spare battery or two is a must.

Below are recommended best digital cameras for Africa travel and wild life photography, by taking into account three main features of large zoom and compact size camera

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 is the successor to the very popular FZ18 and has increased resolution: 10.1 Megapixels.

It has an amazing super-zoom with an 18x optically stabilised lens (27-486mm, 35mm equivalent) and if that is not enough there are options to add a 1.7x teleconverter to it. As well as the zoom for t great close ups of wildlife; the 27mm wide-angle feature is ideal for your broad Masai Mara and Serengeti landscapes allowing you to capture a wider view.

Canon Powershot SX10 IS

Canon’s latest super-zoom, taking over from the fantastic PowerShot S5 IS. Unlike the Panasonic, it uses AA batteries to power it. The massive 20x zoom (28-560mm equivalent), is perfect for getting close to large wildlife like elephants and rhinos. The Canon Powershot SX10 IS boasts 10 Megapixels with the latest DIGIC 4 processor adds AF tracking, more efficient video compression, and a clever self-timer mode which waits for a new person to appear before starting the countdown..

Canon Powershot SX10 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28.

Both cameras are very alike in most regards

  Canon Powershot SX10 IS Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 Zoom tele (T) 560 mm (20 x) 486 mm (18 x) Dimensions 128 x 88 x 87 mm 118 x 75 x 88 mm (4.6 x 3 x 3.5 in) Image stabilization Yes Yes Format SLR-like SLR-like Price guide £322 £260 Max resolution 3648 x 2736 3648x 2736 Effective pixels 10.0 million 10.1 million Battery / Charger No Yes Battery AA batteries (NiMH recommended) Lithium-Ion rechargeable Weight (inc. batteries) 600g 417g

Other Super Zoom Cameras Worth Considering Other than the above recommendations for the best camera to take on Kenya safari, you may wish to also take a look at the options below, all great cameras and all that meet our requirements of being compact enought to easily carry whilst traveling, have a great zoom on it to get nice close up photos of the wildlife and must be not too expensive

The worse you can call Ngorongoro is amazing. That would be more than that, there is definitely not a word that can describe this conservation area.

Ngorongoro is the home of the largest caldera on earth. With walls reaching to 2200 meters high, this is fairly equal to Mount Kilimanjaro before the eruption. Thus the consideration for it being one of the world’s natural wonders.

The caldera itself is not a plain heap of land that stood on its place and make people amazed. No. In fact, once the caldera settled, it began to create pools of water that attract some 30,000 wildlife species at any given time. More like a Garden of Eden, Ngorongoro harbors the largest congregation of games in the entire earth.

Tarangire National Park

Elephants…elephants…elephants…its obvious. When you want to see large herds of elephants with accompanying buffaloes, your best bet would be the Tarangire. The number of elephants concentrating here is almost 600 individuals during the peak season.

However, less tourists visit here since they are attracted to neighboring national parks such as the magnificent Serengeti and the mighty Ngorongoro. The dry season harbors the largest population of elephants along with other enormous animals and plain beasts, which benefit from the vast water resources of the Tarangire River. They disperse during winter though.

Lake Manyara National Park

Ask anything about Lake Manyara and collect them all in one heap, tree climbing lions will emerge as the top answer. It is true. Climbing lions that prefer sleeping the day up on the tree branches than lying comfortably in the grasslands as all other lions do.

While it gather its fame from the strangely dispositioned lions, it is also popular for its large congregation of lake birds such as the pelicans, Egyptian geese, storks, quelea, flamingos and cormorants.

You may also find the usual wildlife species here complemented by the rare animals such as the lord of the forest- Sykes monkey and the Olive baboon.

The Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s favourite travel destinations. Featuring dramatic savannah and forest scenery, the “Big Five” animals, and a wealth of wildlife, the Kruger Park offers a unique safari experience under the African sun. A Kruger Park safari is an unforgettable experience for young and old, and gives visitors the opportunity to appreciate some of nature’s greatest wonders. It is no surprise that the Kruger National Park is a world-famous wildlife destination, and ranked as one of Africa’s top safari destinations.

Mpumalanga is the northernmost province of South Africa, and a leading destination for safari travel. It is within the borders of this province that the Kruger Park is found. The park stretches across a massive area almost two-million hectares in diameter. The region also houses the Sabi Sands game reserve and the Timbavati reserve. Whilst these are both private game reserves, the Kruger Park is a national reserve with some private parks within its borders.

The Kruger Park was established in 1898 as a sanctuary for protecting wildlife from extinction due to hunting. Today, the park is home to thousands of species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and trees.

Mpumalaga safari travel can be enjoyed at many luxurious game lodges in and around the Kruger National Park. The reserve was initially created for self-catering safari travel. However, modern safari lodges have created opulent settings in which guests can enjoy the best South African safari experiences in luxury.

Enquire now about Mpumalanga and Kruger safari travel ideas and packages.

The Big Five

This well-known phrase refers to five animals found in Africa, and which are synonymous with authentic safari travel. They are the lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo. These animals are part of the ‘Big Five’ because they were the animals that were most difficult to hunt on foot, and they have been famous since the earliest safaris in history. Whilst people no longer hunt these creatures, the fascination with these animals remains. The Big Five are a must-see for anyone taking an Mpumalanga safari tour or Kruger Park safari.

Luxury Mpumalanga safari accommodation

5-Star accommodation available at the Kruger Park, and other Mpumalanga safari lodges, is the very definition of luxury. Much of the decor aims to recreate the mixture of colonial and African influences during the great safari hunting excursions of the 1800s. Cuisine and facilities are top-class, and luxury amenities enable guests to unwind in serene settings away from the stresses of city life.

Enjoy a relaxing bubble bath amid the untamed wilderness of the African savannah, as the setting sun lays delicate shadows across the landscape. Rejuvenate with various spa treatments on offer at selected game lodges. Unwind with refreshing sundowners and an evening game drive, before dining under the stars at a traditional “boma braai”, an African-style barbeque featuring traditional cuisine. Sample delicacies such as kudu casserole and marinated springbok steaks.

Game-viewing activities at the Kruger Park and other top Mpumalanga game reserves

Game lodges offer guests a range of activities in the Kruger National Park and other Mpumalanga game parks. Without a doubt, the number one activity among guests is morning and evening game drives. Open-topped 4×4 vehicles take guests off-road into the bush, as accompanying rangers track the location of the game to find the Big Five and other exotic wildlife.

Guided bush walks and game-spotting from a “hide” (a type of game-viewing bunker) are also extremely popular activities during Mpumalanga safari travel. These experiences, too, are led by a ranger, and are excellent opportunities for viewing smaller game. The habitats of the larger animals should always be respected, and thus are not visited during bush walks.

Your luxury Kruger Park safari awaits

A visit to a luxury game lodge in Mpumulanga is an experience of a lifetime. It is no wonder that tourists from around the world flock to the Kruger National Park and other private reserves in South Africa: The game-rich savannahs provide a unique getaway from urban living, in one of Africa’s most popular safari tour destinations. An Mpumalanga or Kruger Park safari is sure to offer relaxation, enjoyment and many fascinating encounters with well-known wild-life.

Book an Mpumalanga safari tour today to experience the thrill of seeing big game up close, and to relax in opulent safari lodges.

Africa, a place that is naturally endowed with species that it exclusively owns.

The mere sound of the name rings bells of adventure, exploration, realization and hunting. Because of the diversity of hunting safari, it offers as much opportunities for hunting fanatics to explore a range of ecological areas that have their own specialties.

Well, it’s hard to imagine how we can exactly describe the purity of Africa. It is safe though to tell you that it is filled with rich resources of plain animals suited for game, predators that follow after their kill, animals grazing on fertile and unspoiled lands and others.

The game aside, Africa gathers the largest, most dense and extreme concentration of plant species and strange animals that seem to have come directly from the sixth day of the creation.

Now going to the bird, at any given time of the year, a single national park can contain an average of 300 to 500 bird species, which make Africa not only a haven of species but also a paradise for naturalists and ornithologists.

The plant and tree species are also diverse that it is impossible to record them all. Some species are as old as several thousand years ago, which again seemed to be the direct link to the Creator.

Al these combined (and the mixture of other components), Africa is one big paradise for man and the creations to enjoy. To flourish and to experience the circle of life. The dance that plays with each organism and specie. And the life that sets the balance between the created and the wardens.

As for the hunting safari, Africa boasts the most excellent sites and species that fuel man’s passion for hunting animals in their natural habitats. Though hunting is restricted in some national parks, local governments still assigned African hunting safaris where varieties of games are enjoyed but in accordance with ethical restrictions.

Some common hunting safari animals in Africa are: black wildebeest, gemsbuck, red hartebeest, springbuck, waterbuck, bushbuck, zebras, antelopes, eland, steenbuck, rhebuck, impala, blue wildebeest, warthog, kudu and many other species.

In African hunting safaris, the most common method used is the rifle hunting. However, although it is popular enough there are still unsettled issues concerning the caliber of the rifle. Please check on the guidelines as suggested by you tour operator.

Next to the rifle hunting is the bow hunting, which for the present is not as customarily used as the rifle hunting. Experts see the future of bow hunting though as the standard to restrict any other issues that must be dealt with the more common form of hunting.

Thinking of wildlife safari? Africa has got it all. Nearly a hundred percent of its reserves and wildlife sanctuaries feature wildlife of some sort. However, the coverage of wildlife species and the varieties that you may see differ as the region changes.

Wildlife aside, safari would only be composed of a number of plant species, of terrain and of strange creatures like insects, bugs and the likes. Without the animals, African safaris would be reduced into a haven of sedentary and rarely moving species. Without the animal of the safaris, ecosystems would not exist. In a sense, animals add to the beauty that life in Africa may present. They give meaning. They add excitement. And they encourage tourism.

It is thought that African safaris started to become famous when the hunt for animals boomed sometime in the nineteenth century. This is because men then were perceived bold enough if they can kill wild animals right in their habitats and in action. This activity provides them a bag full of hunting trophies that adorned the walls of their libraries.

These days, a great thanks to movements for wildlife, hunting is restricted to many areas of African safaris. Nonetheless, there are still areas where slaughtering of wild animals are allowed. Because of the banning, travelers are now limited to only watch the animals hunt each other, predators to prey, and experience the exchange of life and death among them. Some of us still see hunting as a sport though.

The most famous of the animals in safari are known to be the big five which includes rhinoceros, lion, buffalo, leopard and the elephant. Why they became to be, no body is sure. Why other equally wonderful animals are not included in the list remains to be a mystery. It’s safe to presume that that’s simply the way hunters prefer it.

Adding to the big five are plain animals and mammals that coexist with each other. Some being the prey. Some being the predators. Nonetheless, they all take their parts in the circle of life. They give life.

Though not really considered animals, it is still worth saying that there are thousands of insect species, bugs, butterflies, and other moving creatures found in the African safaris. However large or big they can get won’t really matter. They still balance wildlife and they aid in continuing the existence of ecosystems in African safaris.

Some people say, once human intervene with this natural process, even only for once, he may intervene with the succeeding years and life of the species that live in the safaris. And this seem to be true. Sudden and gradual fluctuations of population in the safaris are very much affected by the minute actions of the animals and other living things that exist in it.

We have created brief descriptions of the top five Tanzanians wildlife safaris that rank near the top of the list in all Africa. Please read on.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The information about travel, safari, travel tips presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about travel, safari, travel tips or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

Among others, safari traveling offers these fun-filled activities: a. gorilla trekking b. sailing c. birdwatching d. participatory camping e. self driving

Have fun!

This article’s coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.
